Eucheuma cottonii type seaweed is a type of carrageenan-producing seaweed. Carrageenan has a very important role as a stabilizer (balance regulator), thickener (thickening agent), gelling agent, emulsifier, protective colloid, coagulation and crystallization prevention. This property is highly utilized in the food, medicine, cosmetic, textile, paint, toothpaste and other industries.

Several types of Eucheuma have an important role in international trade as a producer of carrageenan extract. Carrageenan levels in each Eucheuma species ranged from 54% 73%
