Can be processed into multifunctional items such as:

Cascara

So far we only know that the function of coffee skin is to protect the fruit and coffee beans, and usually the skin of the coffee fruit is just thrown away. However, if processed and utilized it can have high selling power. Moreover, the sales prospects for Cascara are quite good.

Now cascara has become an idol that coffee drinkers around the world can enjoy. Now many farmers are starting to process their cascara without just throwing away the coffee waste left over from the process. Cascara itself is tea made from coffee cherry skin which is processed in this way and then dried. After drying the cascara, it can then be brewed like tea and enjoyed like coffee and tea. Cascara has a strong fruity taste. With the presence of cascara, the amount of coffee waste is now starting to decrease.

As an Alternative to Animal Feed

The Agricultural Research and Development Agency through BPTP Bangka Belitung is introducing technology for using coffee waste as animal feed. Coffee skin waste is fermented first to increase its nutritional content. Coffee skin fermentation usually uses an Aspergillus Niger solution. The way to make it is to mix water with granulated sugar, NPK, Urea and Aspergillus Niger, then the mixture is incubated and aerated for 24-36 hours and the solution is ready to use. Then the coffee skin waste is mixed with the solution by making layers of the mixture and placed in a shady place from rain and direct sunlight. Leave it for 5-6 days for the fermentation process and after 5-6 days the fermented coffee husk waste is dried then ground as needed and the fermented coffee husk waste is ready to be used as animal feed.

Coffee skin waste has considerable potential to be used as an alternative animal feed that can increase livestock productivity. Its use can be done especially on people's coffee plantations that have livestock in the plantation environment.

Can be Used as Compost Fertilizer

It turns out that coffee waste can also be used as compost, which is good for plants. Coffee waste is considered worthy of being used as compost because it can be decomposed organically. The process of processing coffee waste into compost is carried out aerobically, that is, it requires the help of oxygen. Composted fertilizer from coffee waste is an alternative for farmers to reduce waste and is the right choice to get fertilizer for other plants more economically.
