Grade A Cloves (Premium) Export Specification

Variety:

Dried Whole Cloves: Whole cloves, not ground into powder.

Quality:

Grade A (Premium):

Whole Cloves: Cloves are intact, without cracks or damage.

Aroma: Strong, sharp, and distinct, with a characteristic sweet and spicy aroma typical of high-quality cloves.

Free from Mold or Bacteria: No mold or bacterial contamination, and no signs of damage due to improper storage or humidity.

Free from Foreign Matter: No dirt, foreign objects, or seeds from other plants.

Size:

Cloves are large, with a minimum length of 1 cm. Larger cloves indicate better quality.

Moisture Content:

Maximum 10-12%: Low moisture content helps preserve the cloves and ensures a longer shelf life.

Eugenol Content:

Minimum 14%: Grade A cloves usually have a higher eugenol content, which is the main active compound in clove oil.

Color:

Dark Brown or Blackish: The cloves should have an even color, indicating proper drying and no excessive exposure to direct sunlight.

Shape:

Intact Shape: Cloves should be whole, with no cracks or pieces broken off. Broken or damaged cloves lower the overall quality and value.

Foreign Matter and Foreign Seeds:

Maximum 1%: The content of foreign matter or seeds should be minimal, ensuring a clean product.

Packaging:

Well-Protected and Secure: Cloves should be packaged securely, typically in plastic bags or jute sacks of 10 kg, 20 kg, or 50 kg, depending on the order. The packaging should protect the cloves from moisture, direct sunlight, and contamination.

Labeling: Packages must have labels indicating the origin, harvest date, and relevant certifications.

Quality Testing:

Free from Harmful Chemicals: The cloves must be tested to ensure no pesticide residues, heavy metals, or harmful chemicals are present.

Organoleptic Quality Test: The cloves should pass sensory testing for aroma and taste, ensuring they meet the desired flavor and fragrance profile.

Certifications:

Fumigation Certificate: The cloves must be free from pests or diseases that could affect quality or cause damage during transit.

Phytosanitary Certificate: Ensures that the cloves are free from plant pests and diseases.

Halal Certification: Required for markets that demand Halal certification.

Organic Certification (if applicable): If the cloves are grown organically, an organic certification should be provided.

Origin:

Indonesia: Grade A cloves generally come from major clove-producing regions in Indonesia, such as Sulawesi, Maluku, and Nusa Tenggara Timur, known for producing some of the best quality cloves globally.
