INDONESIAN ABACA FIBER EXPORTER

Abaca fiber has high strength and is used in the paper industry for making

mimeograph, mats, woven fabrics, tea bags, filter paper and banknotes.

It is also used to make handicraft such as carpets, furniture, clothing, and bags. Abaca

fiber is used in fishing nets, hawsers, and shipping lines/ropes due to beneficial

properties such as flexibility, durability, and saltwater resistance.

It is classified as a hard fiber along with sisal, coir, and henequin. In addition, abaca

fiber is used in gifts, toys, and housewares. Furthermore, it is used as an alternative to

glass fiber reinforced plastics components. It is also called biodegradable and

sustainable fiber.

Abaca is considered the strongest of natural fibers, being three times stronger than

sisal fiber, and is far more resistant to saltwater decomposition than most of the

vegetable fibers. Compared to synthetic fibers like rayon and nylon, abaca fiber

possesses higher tensile strength and lower elongation in both wet and dry states.
