Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, is famous as a melinjo-producing which innovate the production of Emping. Emping melinjo generate relatively high selling value. Along the main street and in residents' houses yard, there are always melinjo trees indicate that Melinjo grows well in this area.



Emping or melinjo chips are usually marketed in Beureunuen and Banda Aceh because those are place where melinjo chips agents start to distribute Emping to all regions in Aceh Province and also become Aceh's export commodities. In addition, Babah Jurong is also famous for widely and expanse rice fields which produces good quality rice, and supported by well-functioning irrigation.



Emping is famous as a snack that processed from melinjo fruit. Emping from melinjo fruit give strong and combination taste of bitter and savory. The process to produce emping is by boiling or roasting the peeled melinjo fruit. Next, the melinjo fruit is crushed and dried before being fried.



Usually, emping is used as side dish or complimentary in Soto Betawi, Soto Mie or Gado-Gado. As an alternative food, the benefits of melinjo chips have been discovered by Japan researchers. This food contains quite high antioxidant compounds which can overcome various free radicals that cause various diseases.



Its form is solid, flat and dry. The taste is slightly bitter and has a distinctive aroma like almonds. Some people are reluctant to consume melinjo chips because the containing of purine compounds.



The Aceh Customs Regional Office on Wednesday (7/7) released the exports of Asam Sunti and Emping Melinjo to Denmark, one of the Scandinavian countries (a peninsula in the northern part of Europe). The 50 kg exported commodities which consist of 45 kilograms of Sunti Acid and 5 kilograms of Emping Melinjo were sent to Jakarta first before being flown to Denmark. By exporting this commodities, we hope that it can expand the opportunities for utilizing Aceh's native commodity resources as export commodities in the future.
